Welcome to Mery’s Moment: my new project for digital detox through making things with your hands

I’m María, and since 2011 I’ve been doing something that fascinates me: teaching people to create with their hands, in a perfectly imperfect way. I’ve run workshops for thousands of people of all ages through Delipapel, and I’m also a teacher at Vogue Shots — in fact, this very photo was taken for that project.

Now I’m opening a new chapter — perhaps the most personal one I’ve ever lived — and so I’ve given it my own name: Mery’s Moment.

Everything I’ve learned through years of teaching has made this new project possible: creative activity boxes designed to achieve a genuine digital detox, even if only for a few hours, and to help you return to making things with your hands. The experience you’ll receive at home is 360º: all your senses are invited, so you can truly enjoy this creative moment — designed for you, from the very first detail.

Mery’s Moment was born, in fact, from watching again and again how we walk with our phones in hand, how we check them even while crossing the street. From seeing how, at a concert, all you see are lit-up screens recording instead of people living the moment. And — I’ll be honest — from realising that I myself spend hours scrolling down without even noticing. To try to slow that down, even just for a few hours, this project was born.

And our creative boxes carry a very important social purpose: every Mery’s Moment box is handmade in Spain and assembled at the Casa Santa Teresa Special Employment Centre in Madrid, thanks to the work of people with intellectual disabilities. Every box you buy is not just a moment for you — it also creates real employment and inclusion.

This is a small step, and I’d love to have you along for the journey every fortnight. Here I’ll share my ideas, my thoughts, what I see coming in creative trends, and above all, everything that helps us reconnect with ourselves — without screens in the way.
